IRENE JACOBS: I wanted to become a personal injury lawyer because I felt that it was the best way to help people who had actually sustained injuries and help them get on with their lives.
I was also delighted and excited about the idea of practicing law with
Bruce, my husband, and with my father-in-law, who had had this firm for many years before I became a lawyer.
I handle cases involving
personal injury, most specifically cases involving injuries to children, cases involving cognitive impairment or
brain injury.
Not all injuries can be verified by an x-ray or an MRI. Some injuries are emotional, or psychological, and they are more apparent in the way a person copes with physical injuries that he or she might have had. It's very important to be empathetic to the non-physical injuries and to make sure that the client gets treatment for them.
I would like my clients to know that I have the experience to handle the cases that they bring in. That I have maturity to see them through problems that may arise during the course of handling their case. That as a mom and as a former teacher, I have an enormous amount of empathy with injuries which occur to children and that I have the determination to see the case through to the end and to the best result.
