We have the necessary experience and knowledge to fight nursing home negligence. We have a determination to protect and help injured, vulnerable people. We feel that every person is owed dignity and reasonable care in a nursing home.
- Bedsores: Bedsores (decubitus ulcers) are caused by lack of appropriate care. Patients need to be turned so that pressure sores do not form, become infected and, at their worst, cause death from infection.
- Failure to assist: When patients need help to get in and out of bed, to be transferred to a chair, to use bathroom facilities, or to be fed, they are dependent on nursing home staff. A failure to assist can cause the residents to fall and break fragile bones.
- Malnutrition, dehydration: Residents often need help with eating and getting enough to drink. When the staff fails to notice food and water intake, the resident can become dehydrated and malnourished.
- Overmedication and undermedication: Understaffed nursing homes often fail to medicate residents according to medical orders. In some cases, residents are overmedicated so that they will not need as much care.
- Sexual abuse, physical abuse: When vulnerable people are cared for by inexperienced, untrained or unqualified staff, abuse can occur. The residents often fail to report abuse for fear of retribution.
- Transportation or restraint injury: Restraints are sometimes necessary to ensure the safety of a nursing home resident. But when restraints are improperly or excessively used, they can cause serious injuries to the people they were supposed to be protecting.
- Wandering off: When nursing home staff fails to monitor patients, patients may wander off the premises, get lost or injure themselves.
